More Water Released by India Sparks Major Flood Threat in Punjab & Sindh

Lahore/Karachi (September 2, 2025) – Flood fears in Pakistan have escalated after India released massive water inflows into Punjab and Sindh, submerging villages and crippling infrastructure.

According to officials, nearly one million cusecs of water will reach Head Panjnad between September 2–3, while Guddu Barrage is expected to receive 800,000–1.1 million cusecs from September 5–6. Experts warn this could trigger one of the worst flood disasters in recent years.

Sindh Faces Rising Floodwaters

  • In Dadu district, floodwaters submerged three union councils, forcing mass evacuations.
  • Over 30 villages in UC Sial, Munder, and Pat Sharif have been drowned.
  • In Khairpur, several villages and 11 police stations were destroyed.
  • The Sindh Education Department has converted 1,000 schools in Larkana into relief camps, sheltering nearly 33,000 displaced people.

Punjab on High Alert

  • The Provincial Flood Commissioner confirmed 2.3 million people in 2,200 villages are already affected.
  • At Trimmu Headworks, water flows reached 700,000 cusecs by Monday evening.
  • High flood levels were also recorded in the Sutlej, Ravi, and Chenab rivers, forcing evacuations in Lahore, Multan, Bahawalpur, Muzaffargarh, and Jhang.
  • The PDMA has issued a red alert for multiple districts, urging immediate evacuation from high-risk areas.

Ongoing Crisis

Rescue teams remain deployed across Punjab and Sindh, but officials warn the continuous water inflow from India could worsen the crisis, leaving millions vulnerable.
